Our Capital Projects team delivers one of New Zealand’s largest and most diverse capital programs with hundreds of projects delivered each year. Working alongside some of New Zealand’s smartest and reliable companies the team delivers end to end projects across diary manufacturing, logistics, energy, water and wastewater, buildings, and asset care. With investment value from one hundred thousand to over one hundred million there is opportunity abound for all project professionals to deliver value for our Co-operative.
About the opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga
We are seeking a seasoned planner to join our team and take charge of the planning and timeline management for our capital works. This is a unique opportunity to lead the planning function for capital projects across our Global Engineering & Technical (GET) portfolios, which have a value of over $650M per year.
As the Lead Planner you will play a critical role in ensuring the timely management of milestones, efficient allocation of resources and the successful execution of projects that align with our long-term objectives. Your expertise will oversee the strategic alignment, resource optimisation and successful delivery of capital projects within the Global Engineering & Technical division.
This is a highly specialised role that requires extensive experience and knowledge of complex, high-value capital projects in the construction industry within New Zealand.
This role can be based in Auckland, Hamilton or Christchurch, however due to the nature of the role there will be a significant amount of travel required.
Key accountabilities include:
Portfolio Strategy and Planning:
Manage COO's capital strategy into detailed, actionable plans with clear logic and links.
Develop a comprehensive planning framework to guide portfolio/project prioritization and reduce slippage.
Drive long-term planning initiative processes and system improvements, including visualization tools and hybrid ways of working.
Planning and timeline management:
Provide coaching and mentoring to project teams to enhance their planning management skills and overall project management capabilities.
Owner of project planning and timeline management standards.
Management of external project planning resources.
Review and challenge project baselines, Critical Paths and support risk reduction in delivery.
Project Integration and Co-ordination:
Ensure projects are seamlessly executed across departments and stakeholders.
Facilitate communication and collaboration to maintain project alignment.
Co-ordinate resources and schedules to meet project milestones and deliverables.
About you | Mōu
To be successful in this role, here are some of the skills and experience we’re after:
Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
10 years+ experience in project management and planning within a large-scale engineering environment.
Experience with Primavera P6 (Highly desired).
Highly developed effective communication and people skills.
Fostering a culture of continuous learning by encouraging knowledge sharing and collaboration among project teams.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate our capital strategy into a prioritised and financially feasible plan.
Ability to present logical plans, baselines, and Critical Paths across level 1-5 planning.
Ability to create and run scenarios for best value outcomes.
Proficiency across all planning tools.
