About us

Fonterra’s Spreyton site is a key part of our Tasmanian operations, processing high-quality dairy products that serve both local and international markets. The site plays a crucial role in milk processing, cheese production, and warehousing.

About the Role

Our Australian Laboratory located at the Spreyton site are looking to bring on a Laboratory Assistant – Sample Laboratory. This role will be primarily responsible for sample handling, stock maintenance, minimal/limited testing as required. This position requires availability & flexibility across 7 days including weekends on a rotating roster with varying hours. Key responsibilities:

• To conduct numerous tasks as required. E.g., sample receipt/dispatch, sample preparation and sub-sampling of all samples received by the laboratory in accordance with laboratory procedural manual
• Accurately & aseptically pre-weighing of samples ready for testing
• Provide a cost effective and quality Laboratory Service to Fonterra
• Conduct basic equipment calibration & Maintenance
• Maintain consumable stocks & conduct stocktakes
• Perform minimal basic testing

About You

Although experience in a similar role or within a food manufacturing environment will be highly regarded, we are open to candidates who possess strong attention to detail, and are able to work in a fast paced, hands on environment. You can also demonstrate:

• Experience in a testing or quality role within a food manufacturing environment desirable
• High level of attention to detail and organisaitonal skills
• Flexibility with working days
• Ability to understand and interpret technical information and instructions.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and autonomously
• Good mathematical and verbal communication skills
