Position Description
Fonterra is a cooperative of dairy farmers headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand. The company is one of the largest exporters of dairy products in the world. Fonterra Europe has a sales office in Amsterdam and a production site in Heerenveen. A relatively small organization, but with its enormous production output, it is a crucial part of the global operation.
Fonterra produces high-quality ingredients from cheese whey with expertise. This whey is sourced from the adjacent cheese factories of Royal A-ware. Fonterra achieves this with around 75 enthusiastic colleagues in Heerenveen. Safety, quality, continuous improvement, and employee development are highly valued at Fonterra, summarized as "trust in source." The powdered ingredients are used in sports nutrition, baby food, and medical applications.
As an HSE Officer, your responsibilities include:
- Analyzing accident/incident reports and implementing and coordinating improvement actions in the First Priority program.
- Rolling out the HSE annual plan and ensuring alignment with Fonterra's guidelines.
- Developing and executing the Safe Home Assessment program.
- Updating the Risk Inventory & Evaluation (RI&E) and ensuring the actions from the RI&E (action plan) are secured. This is done in collaboration with responsible managers and colleagues.
- Coordinating and conducting internal Health, Safety & Environment audits and observation rounds.
- Supporting the HSE Manager in environmental permit matters.
- Organizing emergency response exercises and providing support and HSE training.
- Finally, together with the HSE Manager, you are responsible for further professionalizing the department—a great challenge, right?
What do you bring?
- A degree at HBO level (integral safety/Intermediate Safety Expert or higher).
- 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a production environment.
- In addition to safety knowledge, you also have knowledge of occupational health management and the environment.
- You have some experience with working in ISO systems and are familiar with improvement methodologies.
Additionally, good analytical skills and problem-solving abilities will be beneficial. You enjoy diversity in your role. Your position requires you to be regularly present at our factory and to interact with almost all colleagues in our organization. You are decisive, result-oriented, and people-focused. You easily convince others with your expertise and have no problem speaking English. Fonterra is an international company.
